Sustainability

More than just a fashion brand

We know we have come a long way from sewing and customising samples in Lucy’s parent’s attic. As we expand, we appreciate our growing responsibility to be conscious of our environmental impact and to our community. Our corporate social responsibility practices are categorised into various areas of our supply chain, these are detailed in this report.

SUPPLIERS

As family is at the heart of NFD, it is very important for us to ensure that any international suppliers we do use also have family and ethical values at the forefront of their business.Building long, positive, and open relationships with our suppliers allows us to create an ethical supply chain.

We work to review all factory audits to ensure workers are paid a fair wage and work in a safe environment, ensuring all factories are rated C or higher.

We select suppliers which fit this ethical ethos and therefore prefer to use suppliers who are registered with SEDEX. A ‘fair wage’ is determined by the local average wage and working hours which meet local law.

All suppliers must adhere to the following requirements:

  • Zero tolerance for modern-day slavery

  •  Zero tolerance for child labour

  •  Monitored control of any excessive overtime hours worked per employee

  •  Health and safety measures in place for:

- Emergency evacuations from the building

- Fire escapes clear passage and sign posted

- Fire alarms regular testing and recorded drills

Never Fully Dressed recommends the use of recycled textiles and packaging to support efforts towards the circular economy. It is not permitted to manufacture virgin material and immediately recycle to make the claim recycled.

Fibres &

Materials

As part of our continued effort to reduce our environmental impact we have introduced recycled polyester and biodegradable fabrics such as viscose, lyocell and organic cotton to our range. 85% of our new swimwear range is made from recycled polyester, which is made up of recycled plastic bottles. Our denim range launched in 2021 uses 1/3 of water compared to conventional wash machines used in most denim processes. Eco-friendly washes and chemicals have been applied in the treatment of the denim to reduce the environmental impact.

Fibres &

Materials

Our sustainable fibres include:

  • Recycled Polyester - made with recycled fibres

  • Eco-Vero Viscose - made from sustainable wood from controlled sources, this reduces emissions and water impact involved in the processes which is less than produced in conventional viscose processes

  • Lyocell - Lyocell fibres are smooth, elastic, and highly resistant to wrinkles. Owing to its moisture management properties, Lyocell is said to be an effective anti-bacterial.

  •  Recycled Polyester - material made from recycled plastic bottles, this material has been used for our swim range which launched in 2021.

Responsible

Denim

Our denim supplier has an in-house sustainable washing unit. This washing facility replaces traditional harmful processes by using cutting-edge laser and innovative ozone to treat garments, eliminating the use of harmful chemicals, reducing water waste by up to 80% and saving energy.

Our denim supplier has also invested in dramatically reducing factory waste by taking all factory offcuts to recycle into their own unique cloth. This creates a circular model and saves huge amounts of waste fabric going to landfill every month. All of our responsible denim conform with GOTS, GRS, OCS and the RCS.

Waste

Materials

We strive to reduce waste in all our processes, that’s why we use waste fabric from our garments to create drawstring bags for accessories and face coverings, this allows our factories to create a more circular fashion process.

This summer we also launched our new responsible packaging which is made from recycled materials to reduce packaging waste. All our packaging is FSC certified and conforms with the Global Recycled Standard. Our woven back neck labels are also made from recycled materials and conform with the GRS.

Preloved

We introduced our preloved initiative 2 years ago as a goal to reduce waste and create a more circular fashion cycle.

If you have any golden oldie NFD items living in your wardrobe, simply send them back to us and we will reward you with NFD points! These are then sold on our Depop page to give them a new home – rather than ending up in landfill. This initiative extends our efforts to reduce waste in the fashion cycle and encourage more conscious shopping decisions.

Although we are developing our responsible initiatives each month, this report will be reviewed and addressed biannually. As we continue to learn how to be more responsible and increase our awareness of our impact as a business we will create an open conversation to take you along this journey with us. As we learn we want to educate our customers how they can also be more responsible in their consumption habits. We want you to get the most out of your clothes so will be sharing tips on how to reinvent your NFD to wear it again and again!
